Other Lives, Iman Humaydan

For the next two classes we will discuss Other Lives (Hayawat Okhra) by Iman Humaydan. (It is available also in French, D’Autres vies).

Other Lives

I would like you to think about the text first in detail, analyzing it as a “travelling text”–what does it mean for a text to travel? how does the text itself thematize travel?

Please also continue your thinking about language and translation, including the question of bi/multilingualism within the text (in whatever language you read it in…)

We will continue to work with this novel as well in terms of World Literature and the theories we have been discussing, so you should also revisit those.

Finally, have a look at some of the reception, reviews!
